We guide each session around the best light and locations, balancing scenic mountain views with authentic interaction and movement. Our approach blends subtle direction with documentary observation, allowing portraits to feel genuine rather than posed.

Every family brings a different pace to a session. Some want to keep things short and efficient; others want time for lots of different combinations. With children, I usually start with the posed family photographs while their attention is fresh, then keep them moving. Some of the best photographs happen when the kids start exploring and everyone relaxes.
One small tip makes a big difference: let me work on getting your child’s attention—or your dog’s. It is natural for parents to look down and help, but that can mean the child finally looks at the camera just as both parents look away. For the posed photographs, keep your attention toward me and let me handle theirs. After that, there is room for the less predictable moments that show your family as you are.
Whether you are planning a destination visit or are local to Aspen, we provide professional portrait photography that reflects both the sophistication of the setting and the authenticity of your relationships. Many of the families we photograph first met us while planning a wedding, proposal, or engagement session in Aspen. Do you recommend specific locations?
Yes. In fall, I particularly like Snowmass, including Tom Blake Trailhead. For families who want more of an adventure, I also recommend the drive to Capitol Peak Trailhead. We choose the setting around your family, the light, and how much exploring you want to do.
Do you shoot year-round?
Yes. Aspen is beautiful in every season, and we plan around conditions.
Do you photograph more than families?
Absolutely. Along with family portraits, we photograph surprise proposals, engagements, anniversaries, couples, maternity sessions, and milestone celebrations throughout Aspen and the Colorado mountains.
