An Intimate Wedding at Smith Cabin in Aspen
Tucked deep in the backcountry of Aspen, Colorado, Smith Cabin is one of the most breathtaking places to host an intimate mountain wedding. Sitting at 11,300 feet on the backside of Aspen Mountain, it overlooks the vast wilderness near the Maroon Bells–Snowmass area. As a Colorado mountain wedding photographer, it’s a location that never feels ordinary.
Clemmie and Tucker chose Smith Cabin for its privacy, charm, and sweeping alpine views. With fewer than 20 guests in attendance, the entire day felt personal and intentional. Instead of a large production, they surrounded themselves with close family, lifelong friends, and the quiet beauty of the mountains.
Getting Ready Inside the Cabin
In August, the weather in Aspen can be unpredictable. However, this day couldn’t have been more perfect. The sun stayed warm but gentle, and a light breeze moved through the trees. Meanwhile, inside the cozy wood-paneled cabin, Clemmie got ready with her mother and closest friends. The atmosphere felt calm and emotional. Laughter mixed with tears as she stepped into her dress, and every moment felt genuine.
A Backcountry Aspen Ceremony with Mountain Views
Soon after, guests gathered outside for the ceremony. Against the dramatic Colorado backdrop, Clemmie and Tucker exchanged vows completely present with one another. There was no distraction—just the sound of wind in the trees and the quiet emotion of the moment. Because of the setting’s elevation and open landscape, every angle offered something cinematic yet natural.
Sunset and a First Dance in the Mountains
Then came sunset.
As the sky shifted into soft shades of pink and orange, the mountains seemed to glow. During their first dance, Clemmie and Tucker swayed together while their guests watched with glasses raised in celebration. The light deepened behind them, creating one of the most breathtaking scenes I’ve photographed as an Aspen wedding photographer.
Why Smith Cabin Is Perfect for an Aspen Wedding
Ultimately, this Smith Cabin Aspen wedding was a reminder of why intimate mountain celebrations are so powerful. When the setting is this wild and beautiful, and the guest list this intentional, the moments unfold effortlessly. And as a wedding photographer in Aspen, these are the stories I feel most honored to document.
